That shouldn't be funny.... but oh how it made me laugh.
My daughter through an A-bomb similar to that at me many years ago. I told her 'No', but if she liked, I would see if one of her aunts would take her brother.
She got a real hopeful look on her face but didn't say anything. About 15 minutes later she came back with tears saying that she didn't want anyone to take him. I said 'See, now you know how Mommy and daddy would feel if you were going to be taken away from us'.
She never asked the question again, although sometimes during her rebellious teenage years, I really, really wished that her brother would ask that same question of her.
Ouch! So what did you answer?
Binkytown - I basically told her the truth: That life was very different before Loaf was born and that yes, in some ways, she probably was happier. But I also emphasized all the great things about her sister. She has someone who loves her, plays with her and will always be there for her through all her life. And she seemed to really like that answer.
